Hi, I’m Crystal Coates, and I’m so glad you’re here.
For the past 24 years, I’ve lived inside the world of intentional, trauma-aware caregiving—the real, messy, beautiful, exhausting, and hope-filled work of raising children with complex early experiences, including in utero substance exposure.
I am both an adoptive and biological parent, and like many caregivers, I stepped into this journey with a wide-open heart and a deep desire to support my children’s growth and well-being. What I didn’t expect was how much this path would stretch, reshape, and challenge me along the way.
I became what I lovingly call an “expert mistake maker.” Not because I didn’t care—but because parenting children with complex histories is nuanced and rarely looks like traditional parenting. Over time, each misstep became information, and every small breakthrough became meaningful. This led me to immerse myself in learning about trauma-informed parenting education, attachment theory, child development, and evidence-based approaches designed for children with complex backgrounds. I also completed the National Training Initiative through the Center for Adoption Support and Education (C.A.S.E.).
Eventually, my lived experience led me to pursue a Master of Arts in Counseling Psychology. While my professional training informs my understanding, this space is rooted in the realities of caregiving—the late-night questions, the uncertainty, and the longing for guidance that truly fits real families. Along the way, I learned how difficult it can be to find support that genuinely understands this journey.
I created this space for caregivers who need what I once needed:
• A shame-free, judgment-free environment
• Acknowledgment of the emotional realities of parenting children with complex needs
• Practical, compassionate guidance that works in real homes
• Parenting tools that support connection and respect both the caregiver’s and child’s capacity
• Support from someone who truly understands this path
If you’re an adoptive, foster, step, or kinship parent navigating intense behaviors, stress, or burnout, you’re not alone—and you’re not failing. You are carrying something heavy, and you deserve support that is knowledgeable, practical, and deeply human.
My mission is simple:
To support caregivers in showing up with confidence and connection, while also tending to their own needs along the way.
Your story matters.
You deserve support.
And together, we can work toward greater understanding, connection, and meaningful change.
I’m honored to walk beside you.
